We’re already at the six month mark. This was us 6 months ago. We were exhausted. But we were back home. Fast forward 6 months. It has been a whirlwind. And so much has happened. We finished another renovation. Opened two new businesses. I had back surgery. And we are still standing. We love our home. There is nothing we would change. We have enjoyed many days and nights on our back porch. (The swing bed is divine!) We have our own little vacation –  right in our own home. From waking up in the most comfortable bedroom, to bathing in a light-soaked bathroom, to getting ready in a great dressing room – all while listening to music pour through the house – it is fabulous. I’ll fill you in on what’s happened since we’ve moved in. From Thanksgiving to 1/1/15 we had SIX major parties. Thanksgiving, tour of homes, street Christmas party, Christmas,...

Thanksgiving was so much fun – and we really broke in our home just right. 17 for Thanksgiving dinner and about 30 four our Low Country Boil. Now we are  scrambling to get ready for Saturday’s Midtown Tour of Homes. If you are in Atlanta this weekend – you can get tickets here. Come on over and say hi! We’ll have tickets for sale at the door. The home is still not 100% complete – so there are a few folks here this week scurrying to finish up.  Wendy is in the cellar doing the cork walls and the painters are here finishing up the exterior. Our goal is to be decorated for Christmas and ready to show everything.  What a good feeling this will be to be completely unpacked and show ready. Wish us luck. (After the holidays you’ll find me taking one LONG nap on the porch...

The Memory of Trees

We lost a good neighbor today. Our neighbors had to take down their 120 year old water oak. One of the things that comes along with living in a historic neighborhood are its great trees. Tom and Mary’s house is the oldest on the street – dating back to the late 1880s. So their trees are some of the oldest. And they are magnificent. Their scale was massive. Here’s a little video in March watching the wind in its branches one afternoon. It’s always so sad to see these beautiful old trees go. But as in life, we all have our day. And if not properly watched, they can become deadly. Back in July a 12″ limb went through a neighbor’s roof on a calm day. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the limb only damaged their front porch. That was the day that Tom and Mary knew they had to take down this massive tree. Neighbors came by to watch and say goodbye. Sadly many...

Project Playhouse – Part Deux

When we cut back the yard Addison’s playhouse was right there smack dab in the middle of our yard. This project was a labor of love that Jonathan built by hand. We all doubted him and he proved us very wrong. It took him about a year doing this in his free time. It is awesome! When we had the garden, it sat in the back of the yard and was hidden behind all of the plants. But then we cleared the yard. And while it is beautiful and we love it – we didn’t want it in the middle of our new back yard. So we enlisted the help of our awesome neighbors and this is what they did. It took 5 hours and they moved it 22 feet. Check out this time lapse video. Everything (including Addison’s decorations) stayed perfectly intact. Pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Just one of the many many reasons we love where we live!  ...
