Beam me up, Scottie!

Beam.  It’s been our four letter word this week. We have big beams.  And while in many cases bigger is better, that’s not so much the case here.  In order to support the load – coupled with a large and open space – we needed these massive supports.  What we didn’t really figure in was how darn massive they were going to be. We’ve gone round and round with our team on how to handle these. Once again, Jonathan came to the rescue (with a little help from our friends). After lots of talking about different scenarios with Ryan (builder), Scott (designer) and Steve (draftsman) we needed a little time for Jonathan’s creative juices to percolate on it all. Our compromise is to drop the ceiling a few inches to make them 8″ square.  Then we will add others distributed evenly to give it balance, and follow our original design inspiration. So now we...

Lots and lots of progress has been made over the last two weeks.  Here’s the state of the house as of this weekend. The door will be removed and reused and a window will go here.  This was used when the home was duplexed years back. Framing is almost completed.  The house is wrapped.  Next up is the installation of the windows and the roof.  One thing we are really happy about is that our house looks exactly the same from the front. All you can really see from their is one of the gables. Contextually it still fits in the neighborhood. The entry is pretty much the same, except now you can see all the way out to the back.  The amount of light that has been created is tremendous.  Our house was always a little dark in areas.  That will no longer be the case. This is the music room.  It used to be where we watched TV.  Now, thanks to our friend Kevin who moved to NYC, we will have a...

Once again I’m a couple weeks behind on the blog. To say we’ve been been busy is putting it mildly! Over the past two weeks our team has written 6 new contracts while working on all of the details of the 10 clients that are closing this month. We are psyched that business is booming and scrambling to take the very best care of each and every one of them. I have joked with several people that I have 3 speeds – stop, fast and warp. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve discovered a 4th – super-warp. I’m looking forward to a little R&R this coming weekend as I know that this fourth speed is not sustainable. My desk is a perfect example of what my life has been like during this time. Thankfully I can at least now see the bottom of my desk (Thanks Michelle!).  Here’s what’s been happening with our house in the last two weeks. We are almost...
