Have you ever watched a crew take a tree down? If you haven’t – you should definitely put it on your bucket list. It is wild! Those guys that hang up in the tree with a chainsaw have some serious cojones!
We lost our beautiful 100+ year tulip poplar in 2011. It was massive.
Thankfully we caught it before it fell and caused serious damage. Right before we were leaving on a two-week overseas vacation, we noticed the tree had moved after a terrible storm. Thankfully our fabulous neighbors handled it for us. I don’t think I could have stomached watching it come down. It took them two days, a street closure and a huge crane.
I miss that tree. The kids figured out a practical way to use it in the summer heat.
On the rear side of our house we had a spindly old elm. We treated it in 2003 when we moved in, and then again in 2010 when our neighbor moved in. Sadly, it just didn’t fare so well. We knew with this renovation we had to take it down, so we called our tree company. This time around I was home and watched in amazement (and fear!).
A crane squeezed into our back yard. Then the daredevils did their thing. Amazingly they were in, out and done within just a couple of hours.
Because it was sick we felt a little less guilty taking it down. I’m looking forward to planting some new trees to replace the two old ones we’ve lost. Imagine the stories those old trees could tell…
