Well, we got our permit. Now comes the fun! Watching our home being taken apart was a strange experience. While we are excited, I was a little melancholy. It is just a strange feeling watching a decade of our memories vanish with the walls.
I know our memories did not vanish, but what can I say, I am a sentimental sap. (Hence that pack rat problem)
Our crew is efficient! Kara came and grabbed the kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and one of the claw foot tubs.
We plan on refinishing one of them along with the great sink we swapped with her. It will be neat to see them reused in her partner’s renovation project. What was really cool was to see the real bones of the home. To think of the memories that these walls have seen over a century!
We discovered that there was a door that closed up behind the butlers pantry – with more storage!! (Hey – if we knew we had that closet maybe we wouldn’t be doing this!)
Then we found out that the downstairs bathroom was originally a side porch. It explains the weird windows. (And the fact that it got so hot while I was getting ready!)

So far so good without any bizarre surprises – or unearthen treasures. I am sure something will pop up. We’ve found some old coal, nails and glass in our backyard over the years- but nothing like the big finds seen on Antique Roadshow.
