A little Glimpse

It’s been another good week. Here’s a little glimpse of what’s been going on. The back porch screens were installed. We chose something that is very clear to keep it light and bright. Very pleased with this. (I just hope birds do not get curious and decide that they need to come and visit.) The back deck ceiling was completed. And our some of our fixtures went in. I love this versatile faucet and the insta-hot. (Thank you Scott for that recommendation.)  The powder room faucet was installed. I like this much better than what I had originally thought of. Jonathan and I finally get to share a master bathroom with lots of room for each of us. And Addison approves of our tub. It’s always nice to have your 8-year-old’s approval. (At least she is not in charge of her room just yet!) Here’s a feature that is more function over form – and that I am...

Tick Tock

We are really counting down the days now. As it stands at the moment, we’ll be back in our home in less than a month. Here’s a recap of the last two weeks. When they took up the boards on the front porch everything was rotten underneath. So they rebuilt it. Now we have a beautiful (and structurally sound) front porch! The exterior cellar stairs have been installed. The framing crew built the chases in the kitchen. Farmhouse sink is in. And then the countertops came. Slowly but surely it’s coming together. The vintage tub and sink came back looking sparkly and new. In order to accommodate the tub, the flooring refinishers came and did the hall bath. We got a sneak peak of what our newly refinished floors will look like. We love them! Then the bath fixtures went in. And the old sink was installed in the powder room. This made me really, really happy! The trim guys were...

Can I get a Capital “P” for Progress!

Wow – the transformation of the last week has been amazing. Like “take my breath away” amazing. The haint blue ceilings I have swooned over for years are finally here – and ours. And we get them on two porches! Do we really get to live here? (This is what I keep asking myself…) The cabinets were delivered on Tuesday and the crew have been busy installing all week. To say that we are excited is the understatement of the year. Enough bitching about our current digs – the light is shining bright at the end of the tunnel. (That is a little smile coming from Jonathan’s face!) The old doors have been installed in the pantry and powder room. I really love the view of the new powder room tile through the transom window. It’s fun to have a modern surprise of 1/2″ penny tile covering the entire sink wall. And – next up for this powder...

The three T’s

Today is about trim, tile and trees. The carpenters were installing the trim. New door casings are going in. The kitchen beams are boxed in. And the transoms we decided to put in above the powder room and pantry are in. We put these in for extra light and so we could reuse our old doors. The old heart pine was laid on the stairwell going to the third floor, and the doors were trimmed out with our old door casings. I love how there is now a little bit of old in with the new. The tile team was also doing their thing. Here’s the laundry room floor. They had to cut the master bath subway tile on site. I love how this is coming together. And I still can’t believe that this is going to be our bathroom! And last but definitely not least, our neighbors had to take down one of the old oak trees. I talk about it here. I will miss this beautiful tree. By the end of the week we will...

Paint!

The countdown has started.  60 (ish) days and counting. Let’s hope we stay on schedule. It’s surely exciting to be nearing the finish line. We have pretty much chosen the paint colors. We are staying the same for the exterior. Back in 2010 when we repainted we consulted with Robert at Historic House Colors to match this home he did above. And will duplicate it on the back of the home. Jonathan is putting his photoshop skills to use for Ryan and his team since we have about 8 colors going on. I have always loved a blue porch ceiling. And we will soon be sporting Hazel on both the front and back porch ceilings. In the past I have been a fan of lots of color on the walls. This time we are going with a beautifully understated neutral in all of the common areas and getting the color from the fabrics. Thanks Scott! The ceiling will be a nice, warm white. Copen Blue will be the...

Hardwood floors are IN!

On Monday our reclaimed heart pine floors arrived. WOOT! And they are sure pretty. By Tuesday they had been fully installed. We are really pleased. Now we need to play with the stain we are going to apply. Our master – I am counting down the days to get into this gorgeous master suite. And actually walk into an oversized shower… I’ll even take the guest shower. I love the way the light dances off the stained glass window in this room! These also came in today. Pulls and knobs for the kitchen. And one of my most exciting little features – the penny tile for the powder room wall.  I’m...
