Well – we did it! What a long and grueling four weeks this has been. It’s been especially grueling with my back. As some of you may know, I have been struggling with major back issues for the last couple of years. These last few weeks have practically broken me –  and I’m seriously ready for some R&R.  2015 will be the year that I will finally rid myself of this problem – whether it be holistically or surgically. But despite this bad back and fighting a cold – we did it – with a lot of help from our friends! We pushed our builder, Ryan, to get us in on time – and he delivered! We all knew we were a little premature getting in, and those first two weeks were pure chaos – with almost 20 people a day working at our home. For those of you that have lived through a renovation – I salute you. I could not imagine living for...

It takes a village

It has been  LONG and EXHAUSTING couple of weeks. But we are in and almost unpacked. While the movers were busy unloading, Scott and his crew were busy making sure that we’d have beautiful rooms before the first week was over. They succeeded! We love our new artwork from Jenny Anderson in the dining room. It goes so well with a piece I got from my parents from the early 1970s. The music room still has a few items left to go- a chair and blue tile on the lower portion of the mantle – but it’s actively being used by Addison and I – and we’ve have enjoyed plucking on the piano and starting lessons. The lounge off the kitchen is so comfortable and cozy. We absolutely love our home. I’m still coming to terms with this new and de-cluttered style, but I really love it and love how much easier it will be to keep up than how we had decorated in the past....

The pain is fading

Benjamin Franklin summed it up perfectly: “There are no gains without pains.” Walking through our home today, I felt the pain leaving me. I’ve joked with many folks about what this renovation has been like. It’s felt like a bad pregnancy – painful and uncomfortable. But now that we see that sweet, beautiful baby – it’s all been worth it. Now our feelings are that of excitement and joy. We’re probably about 95% done. This next week is moving, punch, lots of the last steps of contractors. It’s going to be a zoo. But it will be well worth it. I was able to snap photos of the home today – almost complete with the last coat of poly on the floors. Here is the living room. The three T’s

Today is about trim, tile and trees. The carpenters were installing the trim. New door casings are going in. The kitchen beams are boxed in. And the transoms we decided to put in above the powder room and pantry are in. We put these in for extra light and so we could reuse our old doors. The old heart pine was laid on the stairwell going to the third floor, and the doors were trimmed out with our old door casings. I love how there is now a little bit of old in with the new. The tile team was also doing their thing. Here’s the laundry room floor. They had to cut the master bath subway tile on site. I love how this is coming together. And I still can’t believe that this is going to be our bathroom! And last but definitely not least, our neighbors had to take down one of the old oak trees. I talk about it here. I will miss this beautiful tree. By the end of the week we will...

Drywall – Finishing

By on Aug 16, 2014 in Dining Room, Foyer, Master Bathroom, Master Bedroom, Master Closet - Hers, Pantry, Renovation | 0 comments

Our guys spent most of this week finishing the drywall. This took especially long since we do not have crown molding and don’t plan on adding it. They had to pay close attention to every ceiling/wall  joint throughout the entire home.  It’s looking good! We are really pleased with the continuity of this renovation. This is the only space (by design) that is over-scale from what it would have been. And that’s  just the way we want it. We are going to live in this portion of our home. From hanging out in the lounge, to entertaining, to relaxing on the porch.  This is a big space where we are going to really enjoy spending time in. The butler’s pantry is looking good in its new home. Finally our table linens will have a nice home where they will be easily accessed – and regularly used. We are going to have transoms on both sides of the pantry for some natural...
