Well – we did it! What a long and grueling four weeks this has been. It’s been especially grueling with my back. As some of you may know, I have been struggling with major back issues for the last couple of years. These last few weeks have practically broken me –  and I’m seriously ready for some R&R.  2015 will be the year that I will finally rid myself of this problem – whether it be holistically or surgically. But despite this bad back and fighting a cold – we did it – with a lot of help from our friends! We pushed our builder, Ryan, to get us in on time – and he delivered! We all knew we were a little premature getting in, and those first two weeks were pure chaos – with almost 20 people a day working at our home. For those of you that have lived through a renovation – I salute you. I could not imagine living for...

A little Glimpse

It’s been another good week. Here’s a little glimpse of what’s been going on. The back porch screens were installed. We chose something that is very clear to keep it light and bright. Very pleased with this. (I just hope birds do not get curious and decide that they need to come and visit.) The back deck ceiling was completed. And our some of our fixtures went in. I love this versatile faucet and the insta-hot. (Thank you Scott for that recommendation.)  The powder room faucet was installed. I like this much better than what I had originally thought of. Jonathan and I finally get to share a master bathroom with lots of room for each of us. And Addison approves of our tub. It’s always nice to have your 8-year-old’s approval. (At least she is not in charge of her room just yet!) Here’s a feature that is more function over form – and that I am...

Tick Tock

We are really counting down the days now. As it stands at the moment, we’ll be back in our home in less than a month. Here’s a recap of the last two weeks. When they took up the boards on the front porch everything was rotten underneath. So they rebuilt it. Now we have a beautiful (and structurally sound) front porch! The exterior cellar stairs have been installed. The framing crew built the chases in the kitchen. Farmhouse sink is in. And then the countertops came. Slowly but surely it’s coming together. The vintage tub and sink came back looking sparkly and new. In order to accommodate the tub, the flooring refinishers came and did the hall bath. We got a sneak peak of what our newly refinished floors will look like. We love them! Then the bath fixtures went in. And the old sink was installed in the powder room. This made me really, really happy! The trim guys were...

The back is not her best asset

The rear of our home was just not attractive.  At some point, the original back and side porches were enclosed when it was converted to a duplex.  It was converted back to single family prior to our purchase, but there are still some of the odd additions from it’s duplex years. Before we chopped the backyard in late 2013 to prepare for the tree that had to come down on the side yard, we had a beautiful back yard. It nicely camouflaged the rear of the house. We didn’t really have green thumbs, but inherited a beautiful English style garden from the previous owners.  It bloomed for us every season.  We really had fun with it in our early years here, but you really had to love gardening to be out there regularly to properly keep it up.  The upkeep just became too much of a burden to us with the combination of having a child – and letting our landscaper go during the lean...
