A little Glimpse

It’s been another good week. Here’s a little glimpse of what’s been going on. The back porch screens were installed. We chose something that is very clear to keep it light and bright. Very pleased with this. (I just hope birds do not get curious and decide that they need to come and visit.) The back deck ceiling was completed. And our some of our fixtures went in. I love this versatile faucet and the insta-hot. (Thank you Scott for that recommendation.)  The powder room faucet was installed. I like this much better than what I had originally thought of. Jonathan and I finally get to share a master bathroom with lots of room for each of us. And Addison approves of our tub. It’s always nice to have your 8-year-old’s approval. (At least she is not in charge of her room just yet!) Here’s a feature that is more function over form – and that I am...

Tick Tock

We are really counting down the days now. As it stands at the moment, we’ll be back in our home in less than a month. Here’s a recap of the last two weeks. When they took up the boards on the front porch everything was rotten underneath. So they rebuilt it. Now we have a beautiful (and structurally sound) front porch! The exterior cellar stairs have been installed. The framing crew built the chases in the kitchen. Farmhouse sink is in. And then the countertops came. Slowly but surely it’s coming together. The vintage tub and sink came back looking sparkly and new. In order to accommodate the tub, the flooring refinishers came and did the hall bath. We got a sneak peak of what our newly refinished floors will look like. We love them! Then the bath fixtures went in. And the old sink was installed in the powder room. This made me really, really happy! The trim guys were...

The dumbwaiter is IN

The dumbwaiter was really Jonathan’s idea. And a great one at that. It’s going to be nice to not have to lug big things up and down the stairs! This handy device will go to all four floors. Here’s the top floor bonus room. Second floor laundry room. First floor utility room. Lower level wine cellar. Our rules are simple – operated by adults only and no living things shall be allowed inside. (Do ya hear that,...

Riddle me this

Riddle me this: how do you hide a piece of drywall that wasn’t supposed to be there? With a wall-mounted riddling rack, of course. It feels great to turn problems into solutions – especially cool solutions (that we would have never thought of if there weren’t a problem).  Turns out we’re actually pretty psyched about this now.  We’ve had an antique riddling rack for years in our dining room, but never thought of them for the cellar. This type of rack is wall-mounted (like the one pictured above) and will offer both form and function to our cellar space. I love when that happens! We measured and will be able to order 5 equal panels to cover one entire wall.  Bye bye drywall mistake and hello cool and functional wine storage. I’m going to try and keep this mindset up. I’ll have another glass of lemonade please!...

Progress!

Lots and lots of progress has been made over the last two weeks.  Here’s the state of the house as of this weekend. The door will be removed and reused and a window will go here.  This was used when the home was duplexed years back. Framing is almost completed.  The house is wrapped.  Next up is the installation of the windows and the roof.  One thing we are really happy about is that our house looks exactly the same from the front. All you can really see from their is one of the gables. Contextually it still fits in the neighborhood. The entry is pretty much the same, except now you can see all the way out to the back.  The amount of light that has been created is tremendous.  Our house was always a little dark in areas.  That will no longer be the case. This is the music room.  It used to be where we watched TV.  Now, thanks to our friend Kevin who moved to NYC, we will have a...
