It’s our 6-month Anniversary!

We’re already at the six month mark. This was us 6 months ago. We were exhausted. But we were back home. Fast forward 6 months. It has been a whirlwind. And so much has happened. We finished another renovation. Opened two new businesses. I had back surgery. And we are still standing. We love our home. There is nothing we would change. We have enjoyed many days and nights on our back porch. (The swing bed is divine!) We have our own little vacation –  right in our own home. From waking up in the most comfortable bedroom, to bathing in a light-soaked bathroom, to getting ready in a great dressing room – all while listening to music pour through the house – it is fabulous. I’ll fill you in on what’s happened since we’ve moved in. From Thanksgiving to 1/1/15 we had SIX major parties. Thanksgiving, tour of homes, street Christmas party, Christmas,...

WE DID IT!

Well – we did it! What a long and grueling four weeks this has been. It’s been especially grueling with my back. As some of you may know, I have been struggling with major back issues for the last couple of years. These last few weeks have practically broken me –  and I’m seriously ready for some R&R.  2015 will be the year that I will finally rid myself of this problem – whether it be holistically or surgically. But despite this bad back and fighting a cold – we did it – with a lot of help from our friends! We pushed our builder, Ryan, to get us in on time – and he delivered! We all knew we were a little premature getting in, and those first two weeks were pure chaos – with almost 20 people a day working at our home. For those of you that have lived through a renovation – I salute you. I could not imagine living for...

It takes a village

It has been  LONG and EXHAUSTING couple of weeks. But we are in and almost unpacked. While the movers were busy unloading, Scott and his crew were busy making sure that we’d have beautiful rooms before the first week was over. They succeeded! We love our new artwork from Jenny Anderson in the dining room. It goes so well with a piece I got from my parents from the early 1970s. The music room still has a few items left to go- a chair and blue tile on the lower portion of the mantle – but it’s actively being used by Addison and I – and we’ve have enjoyed plucking on the piano and starting lessons. The lounge off the kitchen is so comfortable and cozy. We absolutely love our home. I’m still coming to terms with this new and de-cluttered style, but I really love it and love how much easier it will be to keep up than how we had decorated in the past....

The pain is fading

Benjamin Franklin summed it up perfectly: “There are no gains without pains.” Walking through our home today, I felt the pain leaving me. I’ve joked with many folks about what this renovation has been like. It’s felt like a bad pregnancy – painful and uncomfortable. But now that we see that sweet, beautiful baby – it’s all been worth it. Now our feelings are that of excitement and joy. We’re probably about 95% done. This next week is moving, punch, lots of the last steps of contractors. It’s going to be a zoo. But it will be well worth it. I was able to snap photos of the home today – almost complete with the last coat of poly on the floors. Here is the living room. It only took 11 years to get off the street

When we purchased our home in 2003 the owners were going to take out our cute little miniature cherry tree for a parking pad. Thankfully we got there in time and saved it. It had always been on our agenda to create a parking pad. Then life happened. Here we are 11 years later – and we finally have off-street parking! We worked with our neighbors as we had to repair the damage our project had caused on their driveway. We came together with a design that would work together, and not be so much concrete. Additionally we did not want something impervious. Jose and his bobcat came back. The crew lined up the forms. Then the concrete truck came and started to pour.   The finished product – curing. This week Jose and his crew were back and added a nice old-world touch to the apron. The cobblestones provide a nice, vintage touch. We are all very pleased how it turned...
