Hardwood floors are IN!

On Monday our reclaimed heart pine floors arrived. WOOT! And they are sure pretty. By Tuesday they had been fully installed. We are really pleased. Now we need to play with the stain we are going to apply. Our master – I am counting down the days to get into this gorgeous master suite. And actually walk into an oversized shower… I’ll even take the guest shower. I love the way the light dances off the stained glass window in this room! These also came in today. Pulls and knobs for the kitchen. And one of my most exciting little features – the penny tile for the powder room wall.  I’m...

The dumbwaiter is IN

The dumbwaiter was really Jonathan’s idea. And a great one at that. It’s going to be nice to not have to lug big things up and down the stairs! This handy device will go to all four floors. Here’s the top floor bonus room. Second floor laundry room. First floor utility room. Lower level wine cellar. Our rules are simple – operated by adults only and no living things shall be allowed inside. (Do ya hear that,...

A blank canvas

So this happened this week. Jose and his bobcat paid us a visit. They went to town. And that big hole in our backyard went bye-bye. We couldn’t believe that we used ALL of that dirt that we dug up when we did the cellar. And now we have a big clean slate to work with. I’ve already mourned the loss of our once beautiful backyard. And now we are ready for something new and more manageable with the help of our friend – and wonderful landscaper, Tim. Addison is all ready to clean out and use her playhouse again. I don’t blame her....

Shut the front door

What to do with the front door… Jonathan added a screen door a couple of years ago. We love being able to keep it open. And for the record – we do know need to change out the white hinges and handle and will do it before we move back in.  Funny how long these “I’ll get to it…” changes actually take! But – what to do with the glass-ish portion of the door?  The door itself is a beautiful and thick old door. However, what you can’t tell from this photo is that the main panel is plexiglass vs. real glass. It has always bothered me as it feels – and sounds – flimsy. Do we change it out to look like the old seeded glass with the mullions or do we add a stained glass element? The verdict is not out. I don’t know how I feel about adding a stained glass element that was not there. But then again, it could be beautiful. We are...

Drywall – Finishing

By on Aug 16, 2014 in Dining Room, Foyer, Master Bathroom, Master Bedroom, Master Closet - Hers, Pantry, Renovation | 0 comments

Our guys spent most of this week finishing the drywall. This took especially long since we do not have crown molding and don’t plan on adding it. They had to pay close attention to every ceiling/wall  joint throughout the entire home.  It’s looking good! We are really pleased with the continuity of this renovation. This is the only space (by design) that is over-scale from what it would have been. And that’s  just the way we want it. We are going to live in this portion of our home. From hanging out in the lounge, to entertaining, to relaxing on the porch.  This is a big space where we are going to really enjoy spending time in. The butler’s pantry is looking good in its new home. Finally our table linens will have a nice home where they will be easily accessed – and regularly used. We are going to have transoms on both sides of the pantry for some natural...
